I love the book! It's a great read. Very well written as if I've been transported to that day and age. Ms. Diliberto, you are a genius.

What a true pleasure to read! A lovely, delicate story, written in crystal, clear prose. The book sometimes reminds me of the French countryside on a warm summer afternoon. But this is also a cultural history, and a revealing picture of the way in which French fashion reflected the historical forces that were sweeping across Europe at the turn of the twentieth century. Enjoy! Dinitia Smith

"Instead of dying, I learned to sew." A rivetting introductory sentence sweeps you into the story--and places the author in the select company of novelists who capture the reader at hello ("Once upon a time, and a very good time it was, there was a moo-cow coming down the road ..." [James Joyce, Portrait of the Artist])!

I loved the book--what wonderful storytelling! And the passion the heroine had for her work and how it bobbed up and down with her while she faced other parts of her life--terrific.
